Identity visuals “The Carrier”

The Carrier is an upcoming mini-series from Identity Visuals. The trailer serves as a pitch for the longer form show, which is a dark, foreboding mystery drama with a touch of humor. It was crucial that the sound design for this early trailer helped to establish the show's tone for an unfamiliar audience.

There are subtle touches of humor in the sound design, like the beeps and boops of the Carrier’s phone, and an ominous metal scrape over the contrasting image of a mailbox with a cartoon face. As the trailer builds, however, we begin to bring in the darker elements.

To drive home the isolation and danger of the landscape, we mixed ghostly voices into the chilling wind effects. To create the vocalizations for the large mysterious creature seen briefly in the trailer, we experimented with various animal recordings. The final sound combines pitched-down seal and walrus calls for the resonant body, along with some screeching vultures to add extra bite. The result is a trailer that’s just as gripping with your eyes shut as it is with them open.
