car Sound design Reel

These are sound design excerpts from some of our favorite car spots. For an engine sound, it’s always a delicate balance between realism and cinematic bravado. Ideally, the process starts with authentic, high-quality recordings of a car’s engine. From there, things like animal growls, screeches and roars can be blended in to bring the engine to life.

These spots call for raw, energetic, and visceral sound design, and they are typically driven by dramatic shifts in energy. For instance, there might be hard cuts between a driver flooring the accelerator, to wide shots of a peaceful desert vista. It’s best to lean into these moments of contrast, and make strategic use of dynamic peaks and valleys.
